Church Leadership Nominations

The church leadership roles prescribed in Scripture are elders and deacons. Only members may serve as leaders of Ruggles and only members may submit leadership nominations. Write the names below of people you would like the elders and deacons (church council) to consider for a church leadership position for the next fiscal year (Nov. 2024-Oct. 2025).

All nominations will go to the elders and deacons for approval before being considered by the congregation at our Annual Meeting on Sunday, Nov. 3rd.

Elders:

Current: Pastor Josh, Pastor Larry, Daniel Mboweni Elders (which the Bible also calls pastors and overseers) are responsible for the primary leadership and oversight of a church. Elders lead the church (1 Timothy 5:17; Titus 1:7; 1 Peter 5:1–2), teach and preach the Word (1 Timothy 3:2; 2 Timothy 4:2; Titus 1:9), protect the church from false teachers (Acts 20:17, 28–31), exhort and admonish the saints in sound doctrine (1 Timothy 4:13; 2 Timothy 3:13–17; Titus 1:9), visit the sick and pray (James 5:14; Acts 6:4), and judge doctrinal issues (Acts 15:6). The qualifications for elders are found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.

World Outreach Deacon:

Current: Linda Smith Leads the church in praying for, serving, and connecting with our missionaries, and provides leadership in educating the congregation about world missions.

Children's Ministry Deacon:

Current: Whitney Cahan Leads the church in ministering to children and families, including handling administrative policies and procedures, recruiting and equipping nursery volunteers, administrating teaching materials (with oversight from staff and elders).

Worship Music Ministry Deacon:

Current: Daniel Mboweni (not continuing) Oversees the worship (music) team.

Worship Technology Ministry Deacon

Current: Bob Moffett Organizes the Sound and Keynote Slides teams.

Hospitality Ministry Deacon:

Current: Gabriel Cristea Leads the hospitality table, greeters, and plans opportunities for fellowship.

Local Outreach Deacon:

Current: Evan Henry Equips the church by organizing opportunities for the congregation to participate in evangelism and mercy ministry.

ESL Ministry Deacon:

Current: Yao Hu Leads Ruggles’ English as a Second Language Meetup Ministry on Thursday Evenings.

Administration Deacon:

Current: Sarah Welch Leads a team of people to help the staff with office and administrative tasks like printing bulletins, preparing the Lord's Supper, inputting guest info, and sending out the newsletter.

Midweek Groups Deacon (Group Leaders):

Current: Linda Smith, Yao Hu, Pastor Josh, Whitney Cahan, Bob & Jerrie Moffett, Pastor Larry, Daniel & Katarina Mboweni (not continuing) Leads our Midweek Community Groups or Discipleship Groups.

Building Management Deacon

Current: Philip Kirui

Current: Larry Showalter This is the corporate leader of the church. This has historically also been the role of a “Moderator” but most recently has been filled by one of the elders.

Current: Whitney Cahan Keeps records of church meetings and membership rolls.

Current: Katarina Mboweni Manages the finances of the church and makes recommendations to elders, Church Council, and congregation about financial decisions.
