"Authority Applied: Husbands" (Ephesians 5:22-33)

After three weeks of theological foundation on the topic of authority, we'll spend the rest of the series considering all of the diverse offices God bestows with authority in Scripture. This Sunday, we'll consider the husband's authority in marriage—what it means, and doesn't mean.

This series is based loosely on the book, Authority by Jonathan Leeman.

Honor Marriage (Exodus 20:14)

We dive back into our sermon series on the 10 Commandments this Sunday. We'll see why faithfulness in marriage is so crucial to the health and holiness not just of individuals but of the entire community of God's people, whether married or not.

Sex Matters (1 Corinthians 6:15-20)

In week two of our series on the body, we’re zooming in on the issue of sex. In our passage, the Apostle Paul teaches the Corinthian church (and us) why sex is so significant for the Christian. Why should Christians flee sexual immorality? Why does sexual sin matter so much to God?

The God of the Living (Matthew 22:23-33)

Belief in life after death is fundamental to Christianity. Yet there are many non-Christians around us who think that this life is all there is. And even for Christians, it's easy to fall into living only for this life, or to misunderstand the next life God has prepared for us. As Jesus continues his confrontation with the Jewish religious leaders, we'll learn why it's crucial for us to believe and anticipate the resurrection of the dead.

Counter-Cultural Kingdom Relationships (Matthew 19:1-12)

MATTHEW series_5_Title 16-9.png

We begin Part 5 of Matthew (chapters 19-26), what we're calling the Clash of Kingdoms. But as we'll see this Sunday, this kingdom clash occurs not only between Jesus and the religious leaders, but also between Jesus and the disciples' (and our) misconceptions about what his kingdom will be like. Chapter 19 starts with Jesus' perspective on marriage. This passage includes Christianity's foundational teaching on marriage, and it was not only counter-cultural in Jesus' day but also in ours.

Why Does God Care Who I Sleep With? (Matthew 5:27-32)

MATTHEW series_1_Title 16-9.png

We come to one of Jesus' most famous teachings about sex. You'll see why God cares so much about this--both in your heart and body. And Jesus will give us some very practical (albeit challenging) ways that you can fight sexual sin in your own heart and life.

Dating (Genesis 24, 29)

Boy Meets Girl_Series_Title.png

Jesus' teaching on marriage in Matthew 19 naturally raises the question of how we're supposed to go about getting married. Yet there is nothing in Matthew 19, or really anywhere in the Bible, that directly addresses our modern phenomenon of dating. However, there are some passages that tell stories of people who intentionally move from singleness to marriage. Today we're going to look at 2 of these stories--one that turns out well and the other not-so-well--and try to discern some biblical principles for dating today. And even if you never plan to date or are already married, there is something in these stories for you.

Marriage (Matthew 19:1-12)

Boy Meets Girl_Series_Title.png

We’ve all probably asked for, and given, some kind of relationship advice before. But have you ever asked God for relationship advice? Jesus actually has a lot to say about this! So over the next four weeks, we're going to take a break from our Genesis series and explore Christ's teaching on marriage, sex, dating, and singleness in Matthew 19. We begin this week with marriage. Not just how to have a good marriage, but how all of us--married or not--should think about marriage from a biblical perspective.
